All I need is a few minutes to talk about the controversy with the Dominican Republic deporting hundreds to thousands of Haitians and/or "dark-skinned" people per day.
It is a well-known fact that colorism is very prevalent in the DR, even amongst its own people. Many Haitians leave Haiti because they believe they are not able to live and build in their own country. As a result many travel, to countries that do not want them there, so that they can build a different future, for their lives and families.
Images coming out of this mass deportation is very heartbreaking, to say the least. Even the State Department is warning US citizens who are dark-skinned, not to travel to the DR or at least carry their passports with them at all times.
